    • "As a child I was often confused about my Grandmother Maxines family. I knew she did not have any full blodded brothers or sisters. I also knew she often spoke of not meeting some of her siblings until she was an adult. One thing that I got most corrected on was that Mailda was her mother.

Malinda was not the biological mothet of Maxine but she was her mom. The family said she was her mother, I believe this was so becouse the title mother carried a large level of respect. She raised Maxine as her own daughter. Mailnda was the woman that my father called grandma when he would be telling me stories fondly remembering her and her home made egg noodles. And oh would Dad get on me if I dared to call anyone but Malinda his grandma. I am sorry I that I do not really remember her that I mostly remeber the funeral services and the outpour of grief showed at her passing. She sounded like a very special woman, supporting Maxine later in life as she went to stay with the McIntyre so that she could meet her brother Kenneth and later her other half siblings mothered by Katherine Jane Yoho. Maxine was even listed as a biological daughter in Malinda's obituary. The obituary lists Malinda as having three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. These numbers include both biological and step grandchildren and great grandchildren. The best words I can think of to summarize her character would be gracious and loving.

Bryan and Katherine were never married.

I do not want anyone who reads this to think that my branch of the family has any ill at all to Katherine Jane Yoho. That is not at all the case. There is just a special bond that comes between a woman and the child she raises and loves. On the contrary, I have never really heard a bad thing about Katherine and I imagine she must have had as much love in her heart as Malinda had. She loved Grandma Maxine so much that she let Bryan raise her, knowing that in that action she was giving her daughter something she could not give at that time of her life. A home. If I remember the story correctly there was a point when my father, as a young man, had managed to break one or both of his legs and he went to the Pruitt's to recover. (You can find the Pruitts by going to one of the spouses of Katherine Yoho.)

The 1940 Census states that Malinda finished fourth grade."
