Around 1811 Waitman & his wife, Mary Wade, went down the Ohio River and located at Vincennes. He was a brick maker and built the residence of President William Henry Harrison in Vincennes with bricks he had made. After moving to Gibson County, Indiana, he made the brick that went into many of the houses in the northern part of that county. In 1817 he received a bounty (a dollar per scalp) on a wolf scalp.
